6TH ROAD SAFETY CAMP 2014

The 6TH ROAD SAFETY CAMP 2014 is a collaborative efforts and partnerships with various Local Government Units (LGUs), and Civic-minded private corporations and the Batangas City Council, BSP. The project aims to strengthen awareness and shape the values of our young scouts on traffic regulations, safety conduct and road courtesy, the 6th Road Safety Camp was held on June 28-29, 2014 at Alangilan Central Elementary School, Batangas City, Philippines.

This undertaking is carried out in partnership with Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI), Department of Education, Bureau of Fire Protection, City Traffic Development and Regulatory Office (TDRO), the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Department of Education (DepEd) and other non – government agencies involved in securing the lives of our young scouts with MR. RAMIL BORBON, the Council Scout Executive of Batangas City Council, BSP.

The ultimate goal of this training is to man the pedestrians especially the school children in crossing the street. According to our guest speaker, 34 Filipimos died from traffic accidents for a period of 24 hours. Because of this BSP, Batangas City Council took the initiative to train senior scouts to help in decreasing this situation.

Thirty (30) competent senior scouts from different secondary schools undertook the two day training on traffic management for the pedestrians. The first day is all about theories and the actual implementation is on the second day. The trainees are supplied with cap, whistle and vest.

As per agreement with the parents and DepEd officials , the successfully trainees will be on duty during school days from 6:00 to 6:45 a.m., then from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. taking into consideration that their class schedule will not be affected. It is also agreed upon that these senior scouts will be on full control and supervision of the officials of the TDRO who are on actual duty. The senior scouts who will man the pedestrians are assigned in the busy streets especially in front of schools as identified by the TDRO.

The participating schools in this training camp are Kumintang Elementary School and Alangilan Central Elementary School composing of 55 active participants as they moved from one to eight modules as accompanied by 14 adult leaders.
