Assisting in the flood protection

On 20 May, Scouts from all over Serbia, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia, were organised to go to the city of Obrenovac, where there was massive flooding. Scouts and other volunteers were summoned to help with the putting up of protective barriers made of sacks filled with sand, to prevent water from spreading. These barriers were placed around "Powerplants Nikola Tesla". It was essential to protect the powerplants from being flooded.
Almost 50 Scouts from Belgrade, Kragujevac and Starcevo (together with other volunteers) gathered in Belgrade to travel to Obrenovac. When we arrived in Obrenovac, we first left packages of humanitarian aid for the locals, and then we moved on to Sector B of the Powerplants. There we helped members of a special police force unit called Zandarmerija. Together we placed sacks with sand along the perimeter of the powerplants. Our coordination was efficient and we placed around 15,000 sacks of sand.
Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic was also there to help us and he worked as hard as any of us. He commended us for our work and we were happy to have worked with someone who is on such a high political position and is not afraid to get his hands dirty.
In a short period of time we got organised and helped as much as we could and showed that our motto "Be prepared" really means something.
