Be prepared.
On rainy 15th of May first reports of upcoming disaster started to appear. Rain was falling for few days non-stop and all the streams and rivers started to raise their water level. On a very short note somebody had to react. A lot of Belgrade suburbs started to get flooded. And one of the first responders there were Scouts of Belgrade. They reacted swiftly and energetically, came there where they were needed and did what they had to do. Tales of their heroic act I will be talked about for a many Scout Jamborees’ to come, but for now I will leave out their names, and names of their Scout groups. I’m scared I will miss out somebody and I am not allowed to do that. Miss out. Or forget. Not now, not in a years to come. Never.
On 15 of May several Scout groups went to Resnik, Grocka, Knezevac and Rakovica. This suburbs were the one which were effected on that first day of flood. The groups scattered around and went to nearest places where they could help. They did everything one could do. Evacuating people, getting them out of the streams and rivers or just helping them secure there houses where it was possible or to get the most of the necessary stuff where it wasn’t . After spending whole day and a part of the night in water they went to grab some rest.
Tomorrow was a new day. Day when a lot things went from bad to worse. A day when there were new things to do and more people to help.
Be proud. Be scout. Be prepared!
