This week is the Global Week of Action for “My World” – The United Nations Global Survey for a Better World. World Scouting has been actively participating in the global consultations and conversations around the processes to identify Post-2015 development goals. This new set of global priorities will succeed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at the end of 2015.
I want us to recall that Scouting has made immense contributions to the achievement of several of the 8 MDGs since its launch in 2000. We aligned our Scouts of the World Award (launched in 2004) to incorporate all the MDGs so that Scouts from around the world could engage in community actions under this framework. We worked closely with the UN and our other partners during this period to ensure collaborative actions and to gather some powerful success stories from the grassroots. World Scouting’s flagship initiative, Messengers of Peace, and a number of other initiatives such as the World Scout Environment Programme, Ticket To Life, Food For Life and the Scouts of the World Award have all shown World Scouting’s commitment to having a strong social impact across the globe.
With over 40 million Scouts being active citizens in their local communities, World Scouting is a powerful youth movement contributing to creating a better world. We should continue to have a strong presence and voice in our communities today and in deciding for our tomorrow. I call upon everyone to take 30 seconds to vote on My World and have a say in what our future development goals should be.
