We are in the very early stage of planning and building a new Den in Ashbourne Co Meath. Our proposed site is alongside the Ashewood housing Estate in Ashbourne and as a means of extending our Hand of friendship to our new neighbours we offered to clean up some flower beds at the front entrance of the estate.
So what did we do?
We arranged a meeting between our Leaders and the Residents committee, our leaders had an opportunity to discuss and outline the plans for our new den.
As a way of fulfilling the community aspect of our Peace badge for an upcoming camp in Castle Saunderson we needed to carry out a community. Between them they then came up with the idea of cleaning up and replanting a number of flower beds at the front entrance to the estate it allowed us to project a positive image of scouting to our new neighbours.
We were supported by the local hardware store Murtaghs Topline who supplied Compost and bedding plants and the local resident also turned out with plants for our Cubs and beavers to plant.
The sun shone and we quickly got the work done with the old adage of many hands making light work never being truer.
Over the course of the few hours we made new friends and from speaking to our new neighbours it is wonderful to hear from them that they see Scouting in such a positive way.
