being a scout from my seventh year on I recently found myself in sort of
a moral conflict to which I hope to get redemption here.
I grew up and became a boy scout in Austria, where - like everywhere
else in the world I presume - there is one single national scouting
Nowadays I live in Germany. As you might be aware, everything is more
complicated here. Some weird political history lead to Germany having
quite a number of scouting organisations four of which are recognised
as members of the WOSM. Unfortunately the troop here in my town is
part of a different organisations.
So here is my conflict: The international fundament of scouting is
very central to me. But: I am told that with the organisation we are
in, we are not entitled to take part in international events nor may I
wear the fleur-de-lis badge (which I had sewed to my shirt without
