This year, the Palestinian Scout Association is not only celebrating the Centenary of Scouting, but also the 95th Anniversary of Scouting in Palestine. To commemorate the occasion, a workshop was held in the North Gaza District, with various Scout leaders and dignitaries making presentations, including the Minister for Youth and Sport, and the North District Commissioner for the Palestinian Scout Association - Mohamed Al-Kahlot.
Hosting the event was Legislative Council Member, (and Scout Leader) Arch. Jamal I. Skaik, who discussed how this year is a celebration of 100 years of management and leadership and how this has meant Scouts have been active in creating a better world in the past, in the present and will continue to do so in the future.
Ibrahim Masoud, President of the Al-Quds Scout Group also made a presentation, showing a short film about local Scouting in the past ten years, followed by a talk on what the Movement may face as it passes into its second century.
The Minister for Youth and Sport then offically opened the Centenary celebrations and two local Scouts sang a Scout song in Arabic.
The room then divided into small groups to discuss and exchange ideas about how to devlop the future of the Scout Movement in Palestine and make the most of the Centenary celebrations in 2007.
