On 16 September 2013, The Scouts Association of Malaysia, Penang collaborated with Penang State Government and Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) had organized the event, ‘Messengers of Peace : Merdeka Hike & Clean Up The World Penang’ at Mengkuang Dam, Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia. We had prepared few activities for the participants to enjoy themselves in the program such as: Merdeka Hiking Competition, coloring competition, poster drawing competition, exhibition and station games.
The program started at 7.30 in the morning. The participants registered their name at the registration counter for participating in various competitions. A total sum of 1200 scouts took part in the Merdeka Hiking Competition, 100 participants for coloring competition, 100 participants in the drawing competition and so on. Besides, there was also a few station activities designed for the public to take part. These activities are environmental exhibition; soap making, composing activity, and accumulation of recycle wastes and so on. We also had set up an activity counter named Messengers of Peace. Messengers of Peace is a 10- year global initiative for all member countries of the World Organization of the Scout Movement aimed to involve individual scouts as well as National Scout Organization in all World of Scout Movement (WOSM) region in peace building activities. The public and scouts had written their wishes on the small pieces of paper and pasted them on the banner to show their effort and ideas to contribute for a better and peaceful world. In addition to the wish-making activity, those scouts who intended to get the Messengers of Peace ring badges had to finish a task with the help of their friends. It required them to plan an activity that can contribute a good service to their community and the task has to be completed in a group of five. A total of 200 scouts had completed this task and 200 ring badges were given out on that day!

After that, those scouts who were involved, had to register themselves as global messengers of peace: www.messengersofpeace.com/signup. According to the database on the website, a number of 250 scouts and leaders had registered and they all succeeded in getting their own code numbers.

At 12.00 noon, we had our launching ceremony of the Messengers of Peace. It was a historical milestone for Penang Scouts as for the first time in Malaysia, Penang state launched the Messengers of Peace. This ceremony was launched by National Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner, Datuk Abdul Kader Mohd Nor; Chairman of Seberang Perai Municipal Council, Puan Maimunah; Assistant National Chief Scout Commissioner, R.
