Sri Lanka Parliament Speaker hopes to revitalize Scout Parliamentarian Group
On a rare occasion, the Ticket to Life (TTL) project team, currently visiting Sri Lanka, met with the Speaker of the Sri Lanka Parliament Hon. Chamal Rajapakshe while the parliament was still in session in the evening of 7th October 2010
Speaking to the TTL visiting team from his Chamber at the Parliament Complex, the Speaker highlighted his keen interest to see the Sri Lankan Chapter of the World Scout Parliament Union revitalized and as a good start he has already approved the participation of the four Scout Parliamentarians to attend the forthcoming World Scout Parliamentary Union (WSPU) Assembly in Korea from 1st to 4th November 2010.
During the visit, participants of the APR Ticket to Life Project Evaluation and Planning Workshop, witnessed the debates at the parliament session and was given a tour of the parliament complex. The team also had the chance to meet few other members of the parliament who are Scout Parliamentarians: Hon. Wasantha Senanake, Hon. Navin Dissanayake, Hon. Buddika Pathirane and the world famous cricketer and now Parliamentarian Hon. Sanath Jayasuriya. The team had a typical Sri Lankan High Tea at the Commonwealth Room of the parliament complex accompanied by the Scout Parliamentarians.
The TTL team was accompanied by APR Management Sub-Committee Chairman Mr Janaprith Fernando, International Commissioner Mr Shiraz Salih and Public Relations Commissioner Mr Prabath Kularatne.
At the concluding part of the workshop held at the Lee Dessanayake Training Centre in Mirigama, Chief Commissioner Mr Chandrasena Batuwangala cited that the project serves the most needy children of society.
Next TTL workshop will be held in the Philippines from 11th to 14th October 2011. This is the second time that Philippines will be hosting TTL workshop after they hosted the first workshop in 2006 and since then followed by other participating countries.
