International Volunteer Day
5 December - International Volunteer Day is an opportunity to thank the volunteers from around the world that support World Scouting through donating their time and talents in a whole variety of ways.
As 2007 marks one hundred years of the Movement, hundreds of thousands of volunteers have this year strived to help young people make the most of the Centenary through supporting many wonderful programmes and activities. The largest display of which took place at the 21st World Scout Jamboree in the UK in July, where 10,000 adult volunteers helped to plan and run a ten day event for over 30,000 young people.
Through this, and numerous other initiatives like the Scouting's Sunrise celebrations which have taken place in every corner of the globe, the public awareness, visibility and recognition of Scouting has increased. 2007 has been a great opportunity to promote the value of volunteering in Scouting to a wider audience and encourage many other adults to also consider volunteering for this great Movement. This being said, for Scouting to grow stronger it will need to involve more adults each year.
So thank you to all the volunteers in Scouting for your time, support and talents. On behalf of 28 million Scouts worldwide - each and every one of you is an asset to the Movement.
