The UN Team and External Relations Group

In constitutional terms, it is the function of the World Scout Bureau “to maintain relations with international organisations whose activities are concerned, inter alia, with youth” (art. XVIII.7 of WOSM’s Constitution). The World Scout Bureau (central and regional offices) is assisted in this task by a team of representatives, and logistical support is provided by NSOs in the concerned cities.

In general terms, the External Relations are under responsibility of WOSM Secretary General coordinated by the External Relations Unit at the World Scout Bureau.

The UN Team is established in New York, Rome, Paris, Nairobi, Vienna and Geneva. As World Scouting is not working only in partnership with the UN, it has also been established a Group on External Relations that maintains the relationships with external entities, supported and coordinated by the External Relations Unit, office of the Secretary General.

Each WOSM representative to the United Nations have and specific role and follow a specific area of work connected to the priorities.

Each WSB-RO appoints a focal point (member of the External Relations Group) responsible for:

  • Maintain the liaison with the WSB-CO (External Relations Unit) in terms of relations with partners.
  • Support NSOs in the project management involving one or more partners in the field.
  • Coordinate the participation of Scouts representative in regional events or consultations convened by partners organisations.

The External Relations Group is reinforced and supported by the WSB in order to achieve the main goal and specific objectives.

Other people may join the External Relations Group or can be involved in the consultations:

  • Scouts volunteers with international experience
  • Youth Advisers to the World Scout committee
  • Members of specific Taskforces or Working Groups
