RESOURCES
Responding to World Disasters - This document describes briefly how you can respond as a Scout in cases of disasters. It also highlights the fact that Scouting is not a relief agency but that we have a very important role to play. ( pdf)
Emergency Planning Workbook - Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs published a book on emergency management planning. It is a good guide for the work during emergency. ( pdf)
EXAMPLES
Tsunami Scout Aid - The end of the year 2004 was so dramatic. The earthquake in the ocean that caused high waves that covered great parts of the land in the affected countries on the Indian Ocean, give us as Scouts a big responsibility towards the humanity. At once the scouts everywhere showed that we are always in the first line at emergency time. Scouts in the affected countries showed wonderful and immediate response. More than 18 Scout associations established aids for the countries affected and more aids are still coming. (See link below)
Algerian Muslim Scouts facing the Earthquake - On May 21, 2003, a severe earthquake struck Algeria and killed hundreds of people and injured thousands more. It was a big disaster hitting Algeria. The Algerian Muslim Scouts, as a part of the community, didn’t wait to see what the government would do. They took immediate action to help the victims. ( pdf)
