Amnesty International
Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide movement that campaigns for internationally recognized human rights.
AI's purpose, according to its mission statement, is "to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination in the context of our work to promote all human rights, as articulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights." AI's work focuses on freedom from mental and physical harm, freedom of conscience and expression and freedom from expression.
AI prides itself in being a neutral agency, free from any governmental, economic or religious interest. Although it is an international organisation, most of the action and research is taken at the state and local level.
