Geneva, 21 March 2009: At its first annual meeting, the World Scout Committee appointed Luc Panissod as Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Mr Panissod, who had been fulfilling this function on an interim basis since November 2007, will lead the World Scout Bureau, the international secretariat of the Scout Movement, based in Geneva.

On learning of his appointment, Luc Panissod stated: “I am very honoured by the trust that the World Committee has shown towards me and I am perfectly aware of the responsibilities entrusted to me. In order to carry out my mandate, I count on the support of the Committee as well as that of all volunteers and professionals at all levels of our Organization. My commitment is guided by Scouting’s values. My work will aim to bring about the changes needed for our Movement to be able to respond to the needs of young people and to face the challenges of the future.”

 

26 May 2008 - Volunteering to improve the environment has been given a significant boost following the announcement today that up to 28 million Scouts in 156 countries will take part in community based environmental initiatives as part of a new alliance with the global Clean Up the World campaign.

Scouts will play a vital role in protecting the environment for future generations following today’s announcement that the World Organization of the Scout Movement has formed an alliance with the Clean Up the World campaign.

The new relationship announced today in Australia by the Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Social Inclusion and the Volunteering Sector, Senator Ursula Stephens, Clean Up the World Chairman and Founder Ian Kiernan AO* and Scouts Australia Chief Commissioner John Ravenhall AM*, will add substantial volunteering power to Clean Up the World, already mobilising an estimated 35 million people each year.

 

Geneva, 3 April 2008 - Youth are a powerful resource for development and are critical actors in the realisation of the Millennium Development Goals. This was one of the key messages of the World Youth Report 2007, which was presented in Geneva on 3 April 2008 at an event hosted by the CONGO Committee of Youth NGOs which is currently chaired by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). The event was also attended by representatives of international youth organisations and UN agencies.

 

Geneva, 1 December 2007 - The World Scout Committee announced the appointment of Mr Luc Panissod, 58, French, as the Acting Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, with effect from today. Luc Panissod is already very well known in World Scouting as he has been Deputy Secretary General since 1991. His area of responsibility was General Management and Finances. In this most demanding area, Luc has performed at the highest level and now looks forward to the latest and greatest challenge of steering Scouting at the start of its second century. Luc was awarded the Bronze Wolf in 1996 and has received several other Scouting awards.

هايلاندس بارك – 27 يوليو 2007:

من اليوم وحتى الثامن من أغسطس، 40 ألف كشاف من 160 دولة من جميع أنحاء العالم سوف يتجمعون فى حديقة هايلاندس بارك بالقرب من مدينة تشلمسفورد بالمملكة المتحدة والتى تبعد 30 كيلو متر شمال لندن.

وخلال الأثنى عشر يوما القادمة سوف يشاركون فى المخيم العالمى الـ21 والاحتفال بمرور مائة عام على إنطلاق الحركة الكشفية العالمية.

Geneva – June 5, 2007 – Today, on World Environment Day, Alcoa Foundation and the World Organization for the Scout Movement announced a joint program promoting sustainability awareness through a worldwide environmental educational Scout program. The program will be initially rolled out in five European countries and will be funded by a two-year $205,000 grant from Alcoa Foundation. Key components of this project will be featured at the 21st World Scout Jamboree scheduled to take place in the UK from July 27 to August 8, 2007.

 

Portoroz, Slovenia - On the 9 May, Europe Day, in Portoroz, Slovenia, Scouts and PostEurop will launch the 2007 EUROPA stamp celebrating Scouting’s centenary. Over 50 postal operators in Europe are participating in this special issue. As community based organisations, Scouts and postal operators are working in partnership in 2007, the centenary year of Scouting, and to send the joint message to celebrate Scouting, celebrate the positive contribution of youth involvement.

 

Kenya, 22 February 2007 - Today in Nyeri, Kenya, several thousand Scouts gathered at the grave of Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, to light a flame which will cross Africa and Europe, as part of the Movement's Centenary celebrations.
