Scout elected President of the Portuguese National Youth Council (CNJ)

José Filipe Sousa, a young Leader of AEP - Portuguese Scout Association, was elected President of the Portuguese National Youth Council (CNJ) in the General Assembly held on 6-7 February.

"Today, the CNJ can continue its development and make the bridge between the policy makers and the youth movement. Therefore we can contribute to the approach of important issues and to promote solutions for a better society, with more justice.", said José Filipe Sousa in his first speech as President of CNJ, where he also elected unemployment, labour conditions, and conciliation of family and professional life as central issues of the Youth Council future work.

This is the first time that a member of a Scout association is elected as President of CNJ, and this election results from the strong and constructive intervention of AEP in the last years on several youth forums. This is also the reason why AEP has been elected consecutively for the previous 3 mandates of the CNJ national board, and this time having José Filipe Sousa elected as President.

In addition, Nelson Raimundo, AEP’s President, was re-elected as representative of CNJ at the Board of Portuguese Youth Institute (IPJ). The Portuguese Youth Institute is the government structure responsible for the implementation of the Portuguese youth policy and the support to all youth organizations.

World Scouting joins AEP in congratulating José Filipe Sousa on this auspicious occasion and wishes him a fruitful term in office.
