Saudi King urges Scouts to work for Peace
Speaking in Riyadh to a delegation of Scouts from the Youth Camp hosted by Saudi Scout Association and IUMS in Jubail, His Majesty praised the work of Scouts around the world in the programme - Gifts for Peace.
He called on WOSM to encourage all 28 million scouts throughout the world to join this programme and work for peace and understanding in their own communities.
"The God of Judaism, the God of Islam and the God of Christianity are the same God, said King Abdullah", Protector of the Two Holy Mosques, "We just pray to him in different ways, so we should all be working to make this a more peaceful world". Raising his hand in the scout sign, he saluted the young people of the world and pledged his support for their work.
Joining the youth delegates from the camp were Eduardo Missoni, WOSM Secretary General, John Geoghegan of the World Scout Foundation and Dr. Abdullah Nasseef, IUMS Chairman and WSF Board Member.
His Majesty was recognised during the meeting as a Member of the World Baden-Powell Fellowship, and received a message of thanks from His Majesty The King of Sweden, who is Honorary President of the World Scout Foundation.
King Abdullah inspired the Gifts for Peace programme, which so far involves scouts in 70 countries. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided initial funding for this programme and the WSF is currently in discussions to extend this for the long term.
