Regional Bodies
In the world there are more than 28 million Scouts, present in 216 countries and territories.
The Interamerican Region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) groups, supports and provides services to more than 7 million of them, youth and adults, men and women, members of 32 National Scout Organizations located in the same number of American countries and territories.
The highest authority in the Interamerican Scout Region is the Interamerican Scout Conference, composed by representatives of the 32 National Scouts Organizations belonging to it. The Conference meets every 3 years in any country in the continent, which, after application of the respective association, has been elected at the immediately preceding Conference.
The Conference elects the Interamerican Scout Committee (ISC), which represents it between its meetings and has among its tasks approve and boost the Regional Development Plan in accordance with the objectives, policies and action lines set up by the Conference.
It also forms part of the bodies of the Interamerican Scout Region Office (ISO), depending from the World Scout Bureau and composed by a team of professionals who work full time in the development and strengthening of the Scout Movement in North America, Central America, Caribbean and South America. The ISO is also the Conference Secretariat and its Regional Director is the Executive Secretary of the ISC.
The Region has also the Interamerican Scout Foundation (ISF), which has as its mission raise funds to support and finance the activities and projects promoted at regional level.
Finally, the Interamerican Scout Region has recognized the American section of the International Catholic Scouters Conference (ICSC - America) as an advisory body, institutional nexus between the Scout Movement and the Catholic Church.
