Jamboree Youth Forum: a hub of young people

With much energy and enthusiasm 83 Scouts from 23 countries met and discussed relevant issues on 2nd January 2010 in Laguna, Philippines for the 2009 Scout Youth Forum in conjunction with the 26th APR Scout Jamboree.

This Forum was headed by APR Programme Sub Committee Chairman Jose Eduardo Delgado who worked closely with Jamboree Organizing Committee member Alfian Amura and Young Adult Members Group (YAMG) Krittee Tantivisitul (Thailand) and Ms Seo Ji Eun (Korea) who served as facilitators.

In his opening remarks, Delgado told of the story how he as a young man, participated in the regional forum in 1971, in Japan, and how he was chosen to submit the recommendations to the World Scout Committee Chairman Antonio C. Degado who was his father. On the same context, he encouraged all the participants to share their views on Scouting and how they want to see it in the coming years.

The Forum provided an opportunity for young people to discuss and express their views on issues of interest to them. Through their inputs and recommendations the young people not only receive the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to strengthen their capacity but to be part in decision-making processes towards Scouting in the region.

Closing ceremony

On the evening of 2nd January 2010, the closing ceremony of the regional Jamboree was held where Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed personally said “Salamat Po” a Tagalog phrase for “Thank You” to nearly 14,000 Scouts and leaders who participated and camped at the beautiful place of Mt Makiling.

The last few hours of the event, he hoped that the memory of the eight-day camp will become a lasting memory. He encouraged the participants to bring home the learning, the knowledge, and new friendships and let the theme of the Jamboree ‘Creating a Better World’ be always with them to share it with their families and friends.

In the closing remarks of Chairman Binay, he encouraged the young people to bring the token of friendship and peace as they leave the camp and share what they have learned to others using it as a gift to the world. He told them to always remember the bond of friendship they have built with local and foreign Scouts.

The Jamboree ended by fireworks which blended well with the waving of the NSO flags.
Boy Scouts of the Philippines turned over the 26th APR Scout Jamboree flag to Korea represented by Suncheon Asia-Pacific Scout Centre Director Mr Rue Seung Jin, as the host NSO for the next 27th APR Scout Jamboree from 4th to 9th August 2010.
