Baden Powell Scout Peak and Trail launched!

Nepal Chief Scout and Minister of Education Dr Mangal Siddhi Manandhar together with the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Pradeep Kumar Gyawali officiated the soft launch of Baden Powell Scout Peak and Trail at the open grounds of Nepal Scouts HQ in Kathmandu.

The ministers expressed their pleasure for naming the peak after Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting, as way of honouring the Scouting world as it approaches its centenary year in 2007.

The presence of the Regional Scout Committee and sub-committee members, and other regional leaders along with some chief commissioners made the launching more prominent.

The Chief Scout handed over the flags to 12 country representatives taking part in the trail at the base camp of Baden Powell Scout Peak. Participating countries were Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

After the launch, Prime Minister Girijal Koirala invited the regional leaders to his residence. He said “many people do not know what Scouts do and people must be told of their good work.” He himself was an active Scout. He said that with Scouting’s openness to all, regardless of religion or creed, Scouts could contribute to peace and the resolution of conflicts.
