5th Asia Pacific Regional Youth Forum

A total of 123 participants from 26 National Scout Organizations including guests from Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia gathered together to celebrate the biggest Scout Youth Forum ever held in the region from 12th to 15th October at the National Youth Center in Tokyo, Japan.

From the 123 participants, 45 are girls (37%) and 78 are boys (63%) with ages from 18 to 26 years old.

The spirit of universality became evident when the participants defined “What is Scouting” and they discussed the social responsibility, different aspects of Scouting were revealed. Innovative views were shared when they dealt on the topic “new century of Scouting”.

Early in the forum, a steering committee was selected from among the participants to formulate the recommendations. This committee was under the leadership of Youth Forum Chairman Edward Cook and Youth Forum Director Hiroshi Iwasaki. Cook led the committee in presenting their recommendations to the regional conference which covered youth involvement, gender balance, programme, environment and partnerships.

At the forum, participants elected six representatives – three girls and three boys – to the Young Adult Members Group (YAMG). They are Manabu Hiratsuka of Japan, Nikketah McGrath of Australia, Sarah Ho Wing Kei of Singapore, Muller Bato of the Philippines, Karma Chiden of Bhutan, and Rio Ashadi of Indonesia.

APR Youth Programme Sub-Committee Chairman Mari Nakano, sub-committee member Julie Creed and Syd Castillo of APR office supported the overall planning and management of the forum. After the forum, 97 participants stayed on to attend the 22nd APR Scout Conference.
