Workshop evaluates impact of Ticket to Life project
The annual workshop for the evaluation of Ticket to Life project is taking place at the National Training Centre in Gazipur, Bangladesh from 28th to 31st January 2010. There are 24 participants from eight countries. Ticket to Life is a Scouting program offered to street children in selected countries in the Asia-Pacific Region.
The project is targeting to benefit 5,000 street children in eight pilot countries in the region. Over the past three years, more than 1,200 girls and boys have been registered in Scout troops.
Since 2007, coordinators and unit leaders have evaluated the project on a yearly basis. For this workshop, the specific purpose is to identify any measurable impact of the Scouting program on a select group of Scouts. So for purposes of assessment, 123 children in the eight participating countries were identified for the study, and reports are being delivered at the workshop.
Md. Abdul Karim, International Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts and Principal Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh, formally launched the workshop. Also taking part are workshop director M. Mozammel Haque Khan, National Commissioner of Bangladesh Scouts; Abdullah Rasheed, Regional Director; Habibul Alam, Chairman of National Program Committee; Md Nazrul Islam, Executive Secretary of Bangladesh Scouts; and Syd Castillo of APR office as coordinator.
Ticket to Life project is mainly funded through the assistance of the United States Fund for International Scouting (USFIS), APR Scout Foundation, the Scout Association of Japan and the Queen Sylvia Fund through the World Scout Foundation.
