Sri Lanka Scout Association hosts first investiture ceremony for female Cub Scouts
In one simple investiture ceremony, a historic moment of Scouting in Sri Lanka happened on 23rd January 2009 by having 291 female Cub Scouts, studying in a co-education schools, invested together with 109 male Cub Scouts – all from the 12 districts of Sri Lanka.
The ceremony, held at the Seethawaka National School, in Avissawella, Sri Lanka, was indeed a breakthrough for this was the first time that Girls in Scouting programme was introduced in Sri Lanka Scout Association (SLSA).
SLSA Chief Commissioner Chandrasena Batuwangala and other national leaders attended the ceremony and welcomed the positive development. The President's Counsel, Terese Perera was the Chief Guest and the function was attended by other Headquarters Commissioners and Cub Leaders.
The Girls in Scouting programme started in August 2008 and so far it has enrolled a big number of female Cub Scouts.
The World Scout Membership Badge awarded to the first female Cub Scout in Sri Lanka by SLSA Chief Commissioner Chandrasena Batuwangala.
