13th Africa Scout Conference Report
The 13th Africa Scout conference commenced on the evening of Monday, the 3rd September 2007. The event was hosted by Rwanda Scout Association, and it took place at the La Palisse Hotel, in the outskirts of Kigali Town, in Nyandungu.
The conference was a five day event, organized to meet the objectives and purpose of Scouting. The event was supported by the Africa Regional Office as well as other NSOs.
Conference Theme
The theme of the Conference was Scouting: Education for A Peaceful World United Against Violence.
The conference theme is very relevant to the host country, and also the rest of Africa. Peace, reconciliation, and conflict
resolution are of the utmost importance to Africa, and were major themes discussed at the conference. These themes are also of great relevancy in a global context.
Objectives of the Conference
The Conference had three objectives. These were:
- To share ideas and exper iences with participants from different cultures ;
- To develop skills ; and
- To identify ways of improving Scouting for adolescents and young people, all within the context of peace, reconciliation, and conflict resolution.
