Youth Involvement in Indonesia
Indonesia is the forth highest populated country in the world with around 200 million inhabitants. It also has the largest membership with around 16 million boys and girls who are members of the Movement. Youth Involvement is incorporated structurally throughout the association in the Rover Scout Section with Rover Councils existing at sub-District, District, Provincial and national levels.
The approach to involving young people in decision-making is based on adults being role-models and motivating and facilitating young people’s involvement. The National Rover Scout Council is responsible for organising the National Rover Scout Moot each year. Entrepreneurship is a key focus of these events and of the Rover Section generally and Rover Scouts are also very involved in community development camps, known as COMDECAs.
Scouting in Indonesia receives a great deal of support from the government in Indonesia and Scouting has played and continues to play a significant role in the development of areas of the country following the Tsunami in 2002. A second COMDECA will be held in Aceh will be held from 29th November to 6 December, 2010.
