Youth Employment Network
The YEN, with its Secretariat based in Geneva, is a global partnership under the leadership of the United Nations, the World Bank and the ILO. The catalyst for its development was the UN Millennium Declaration, which resolved to "develop and implement strategies that give young people everywhere a real chance to find decent and productive work.”
Supported by national governments, development partners, employers, trade unions, youth groups and other civil society organizations the Network aims to develop and operationalise successful youth employment policy solutions at the country level. The YEN is working with 19 Lead Countries around the world who have stepped forward to take leadership in developing National Action Plans on youth employment NAPs.
World Scouting has enjoyed an advisory role with YEN since 2001. At the YEN's High-Level Panel meeting in July 2003, World Scouting and other youth representatives presented a proposal on future youth involvement in the YEN and on the need for a sustainable youth advisory group for the Network.
In 2004, YEN invited World Scouting to join the Youth Consultative Group (YCG). The YCG serves to represent the concerns of young people in the functioning and strategic priorities of the YEN as well as acting acts as a catalyst and resource to support youth participation in the development of National Action Plans in the Lead Countries and beyond.
