Le vendredi 13 mars 2009, sous la bannière, « Notre Afrique, Notre Environnement : Les Scouts Sont Concernés», la Journée africaine du Scoutisme a été commémorée en grande pompe par la fraternité scoute. À Nairobi, où siège le Bureau Régional (BRA), cet événement a été marqué par une marche, la distributtion de l’uniforme scout et la plantation de 100 arbres. Les membres du personnel du BRA ont participé à l'activité, laquelle a été couverte par une station de radio locale PAMOJA FM 99.9. Le Comité africain du Scoutisme a été représenté par M. Naivasha. Le gouvernement du Kenya a été représenté par le Commissaire du district ouest de Nairobi. Après la plantation d'arbres dans une école à Nairobi, le commissaire a baptisé le jardin, « Jardin africain du Scoutisme»

Scouts have joined the fast paced action of the Volvo Ocean Race as it sails around the world, engaging in sailing activities, learning about the marine environment and high seas adventure. Hundreds of Scouts have already participated in special Volvo Ocean Race Scout Days in Spain, South Africa and Singapore with more ports to come in the months ahead.

Everyone has the opportunity to be a part of the action, as Scouts have partnered with the Volvo Ocean Race and UNEP to create 'Race for the Environment' - an online challenge website where competitors can set up an account and help join the race to save our planet!

Con ocasión del 13er Jamboree Scout Panamericano a realizarse entre el 26 de diciembre de 2009 y el 3 de enero de 2010 en Toluca, México, y gracias al generoso aporte de la Asociación de Scouts de México A. C., queremos convocarlos al “Concurso de proyectos medioambientales” con el propósito de reconocer el trabajo en la protección y recuperación del medio ambiente que realizan Unidades Scouts y Comunidades de Caminantes de nuestra región.

On March 10th , 2009, the National Project on Environmental Preservation will be held with the participation of 11,000 Scouts and leaders from all governorates and districts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The latest UNEP Tunza Magazine for youth has been released, full of interesting articles about climate change and the environment. The magazine also includes a feature by Sijie Tan of The Singapore Scout Association explaining how the participants of the 10th World Scout Youth Forum had an 'Earth Hour' dinner, where they used no electricity.

WOSM is officially supporting Earth Hour 2009.

The World Organization of the Scout Movement has partnered with UNEP to open up these opportunities for our members to show their commitment to respect and value the environment.

The Scouts of the World Base in Singapore conducted the 3rd Scouts of the World Award Discovery Workshop from the 12 to 14 December 2008! Attended by 7 participants, comprising of 3 from Singapore, 3 from Thailand and 1 from Malaysia, this was the pilot ASEAN SWA Discovery workshop!

AGESCI, one of the members of the Italian Scout Federation will join the important awareness campaign to save energy for the fifth year.

A 20h30 le 28 mars 2009, des villes et des métropoles à travers le monde éteindront leurs lumières pendant une heure, afin d'envoyer un puissant message global qu'il est possible d'agir à l'encontre du réchauffement climatique. Les Scouts peuvent soutenir "L'heure de la terre" en 2009 de plusieurs manières, que ce soit en éteignant les lumières des bâtiments la nuit de l'événement ou en propageant à toute la communauté les messages sur l'heure de la terre et les objectifs de réduction d'émissions. Une lettre officielle, de l'OMMS et de WWF, encourageant les Scouts à s'investir dans l'Heure de la Terre (Earth Hour) ainsi que du materiel promotionnel sont disponibles à télécharger.

Following the ongoing successful partnership between the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of 2004, a renewed MoU has been signed in 2008 to continue to enhance the opportunities for Scouts and young people at local, national, regional and world levels to engage in environmental education actions.
