International Council on National Youth Policy

The International Council on National Youth Policy (ICNYP) is an international non-profit organization of an intergovernmental, non-governmental and expert nature dedicated to national youth policy. ICNYP began as a follow-up to the the 1998 World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in Lisbon. The objectives of ICNYP are:

  • to enable and encourage youth to participate in all aspects of youth policy development,
  • to identify problems facing youth and prepare proposals dealing with these issues,
  • to promote the exchange of information on youth policy among stakeholders,
  • and to encourage regular meetings among members through conference or committees.

While ICNYP is not an UN body, it derives mandates from the UN General Assembly and often creates partnerships with UN agencies like UNDP and UNESCO. In addition, the resolutions ICNYP adopted in 2001 encourage IGOs and NGOs to support youth programmes and policies.
