Klaus J. Jacobs 1936 - 2008

'Vox populi' - Africa mourns Klaus Jacobs

A glorious page in the history book of Scouting in Africa will forever be dedicated to a philanthropic giant: Klaus Jacobs. The late Klaus J. Jacobs, was a famous German businessman and the founder of the Jacobs Foundation. Thanks to his support, the Africa Scout Region was able to launch a project dubbed, ''Training Young Leaders to Ensure the Future of Africa''. He was born in 1936 in Germany.

Upon news of his passing on, on 11 September 2008 , Africa reacted with shock and grief. We communicated the sad news to various Scouters in Africa and some of them had this to say:

Seychelles
''We sincerely believe that brother Klaus' foresight will contribute to the positive development of our great continent through the emergence of good future leaders that our [Scout] associations are trying to nurture''.
Bernard R.Elizabeth
Chief Scout of the Seychelles

Didier Camalboudou

''We extend our deepest condolences to his family and the Jacobs Foundation family for his home-going and pray that his soul, like the souls of other faithful departed, rest in perfect peace''.

Mozambique
''Mr Klaus Jacobs was more than just a wonderful person; he was one of our greatest supporters and benefactors. We know that his passing on will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of all those who knew him in African Scouting and in the entire World''
With our deepest sympathy,

Prof. Dr Leonardo Adamowicz
National Chief Scout
Moçambique

Africa Regional Office
''The Jacobs Project has had a profound impact on the lives of thousands of Scouts across Africa, which has provided a critical vehicle for not only personal development, but through the Scouts to their communities at large. The legacy of Mr. Klaus Jacobs will continue through the multitude of young people through whom his generosity and vision will leave this world a better place''

With gratitude,
Rubina M. Haroon
Regional Director

Klaus was awarded the Bronze Wolf for services of the most exceptional character to Scouting in 2006.
May he rest in peace.
