The Africa Scout Day, established following a 1995 resolution (CM/Res.1607 (LXII)) by the then Organisation of African Unity (OAU) now the Africa Union (AU), seeks to recognize the past and ongoing contribution of Scouts in the development of Africa through community service projects. This Day is marked on the 13th of March every year. This is because on 13th March 1961, in Nigeria, African Scout Leaders met for the first time to discuss the organization of the Africa Scout Region.

NIAMEY - From 17 to 25 July 2011, an international solidarity camp will be held at Kouri, Niger, under the aegis of the Association des Scouts du Niger. The event will bring together 300 young people aged from 18 to 25 years from various countries. This camp aims to promote youth participation in development through a culture of peace, tolerance and nonviolence.

NAIROBI – The Kenya Scouts Association (KSA) celebrated its centenary on 24th November 2010. To mark this milestone, KSA conducted numerous activities both at the National and Local levels. The activities included a national blood donation drive culminating in a 150km walk by Scouts in partnership with Kenya blood life foundation, a Centenary Campfire at Rowallan National Camp, a Centenary woodbadge course in Nyeri, a special commemorative Church service at St. John Pumwani, among other community activities carried out by Scouts within their locality.

NAIROBI - They say, “disability is not inability”, and this was epitomized by a group of Kenyan Scouts during the recently ended Kenya National Super Inter-patrol Competitions. The event was held at the Rowallan Camp in Nairobi from 13th to 18th September 2010. The said competitions were like any other, except, some of the participants were deaf.

CAPE VERDE - The African University on Youth and Development (AUYD) took place from 4th yo 12th July in Cape Verde and brought together approximately 150 Youth Leaders, mainly from Africa and Europe. Scouts and Guides organized two and participated mainly in three training courses which were held in the framework of the AUYD namely; in the Long-Term training course for trainers, the Portuguese speaking Scout Youth Forum and the training course on co-operation at the Pan-Africa level.

NAIROBI – Hot on the heels of the 13th World Scout Moot, the Africa Regional Office held a staff management conference from Monday 9th to Friday 13th August 2010. The week-long meeting was held at the Regional Office in Nairobi.

NAIROBI, 16 June 2010 - During a press conference hosted by His Excellency the Vice President of Kenya, Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka at the Hilton Hotel, local and foreign journalists were invited to tell the story of the 13 World Scout Moot.

MANZINI - From 20 to 23 May 2010, the second in a series of communication forums was held in the Kingdom of Swaziland. This training that targeted anglophone National Scout Organizations (NSOs) brought together all NSOs of the southern region of Africa but Lesotho and Angola. In addition NSOs from other sub-regions were represented. They include, Kenya, Madagascar and Ghana. The Chairperson of the Africa Scout Committee, Ms. Jemima Nartey, was in attendance.

From 19 – 23 May 2010, the Swaziland Scout Association will host a Regional Communication Forum for Anglophone NSOs (National Scout Organizations). The same NSO will also host a zonal conference for the Southern Africa sub-region.

PORTO-NOVO - The capital city of Benin, hosted, on Saturday March 13, 2010, the biggest Scout gathering in the country to celebrate Africa Scout Day. This event brought together over 1,500 Scouts.

NAIROBI – At the end of a meeting that brought together all World Scout Bureau executives in Kandersteg, Switzerland, the Africa Regional Office (ARO) executives – who were at the meeting – seized this moment to conduct a planning meeting from 17 to 19 April 2010, at the Kandersteg International Scout Centre.

ACCRA – On 13th March 2010, the Africa Scout Day was marked nationally in Ghana through three main activities: A talk show on Scouting, the signing of a partnership between the Ghana Scout Association (GSA), The Ghana Girl Guides Association (GGGA) and Scouting Netherlands (SN), and a hike.

LOME - As part of the celebrations of the Africa Scout Day on 13 March 2010, under the
theme "Join Scouts in Creating a Better Africa", the Scouts from the University of Lome (GSUL) with the support of Atchali Awadi, national Administration Commissioner, organized a recruitment drive of Scouts in the ADEW area of Lomé.

NIAMEY – In a bid to mark the Africa Scout Day on 13 March 2010, the Niger Scout Association, like other countries in the Africa region, organized several activities including a conference, distribution of clothes and a fair. The event was covered by two television channels. Over 100 Scouts attended the activities that were organized by the national executive team in collaboration with the Scout district of Niamey. In all other regions of Niger this day was also celebrated.

BUJUMBURA - The Africa Scout Day, celebrated each year on 13th March was also celebrated by the Scouts of Burundi. Officials of the Association des Scouts du Burundi (ASB), at national and district level, together with members of the Scout Groups of Bujumbura and university-based Rover Crews commemorated this day in a correctional facility in Mpimba with Scouts from the said facility, who are members of a group known as « Espoir » (Hope).

NAIROBI – On Sunday 21 February 2010, Scouts assembled in Nyeri in order to celebrate the annual Founder’s Day. The ceremony was officiated by Vice President of Kenya Kalonzo Musyoka – who is the Chief Commissioner of Kenya Scouts Association – and former Parliament Speaker Francis ole Kaparo – the Chief Scout of Kenya. According to the organising team, this year’s event was the biggest in history.

ANTANANARIVO - In addition to the decentralized training programmes at district level, which is geared towards specific needs, the National Council of Trainers of Tily Eto Madagasikara organizes an annual training workshop during which all trainers of the Association assemble. For 2010, the workshop was held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Ampefiloha Antananarivo.

From Wednesday 21 April to Friday 23 April 2010, the NSOs of the Indian Ocean sub-region will hold a Zonal Conference in Seychelles; the exact location will be confirmed soon. The main purpose of this Zonal Conference will be consultation and experience sharing.

NAIROBI – In Nyeri, Kenya, on Sunday 21st February 2010, thousands of Scouts will gather in order to mark the Founder’s Day. Kenya is the last home of Lord Baden-Powell (BP), Founder of Scouting. The Africa Regional Office of World Scouting is also based in the east African country.

KINSHASA - Joseph "Pigeon" Paluku, a former International Commissioner of FESCO (Fédération des Scouts du Congo) died on Sunday, 27 December in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), following a road accident.

The 5th Africa Scout Youth Forum was held at Tills No. 1 Beach Hotel in Gomoa Fetteh from 4th to 6th November, 2009. In working groups, the young participants deliberated on various themes and made several proposals that were formulated into recommendations.
