SOS: Help victims of floods in Togo

In Togo, the last quarter of the year 2007 was marked by strong floods in the savannah, plateaus and coastal areas. Heavy rainfalls in the said areas and in the Lomé Commune, have produced a sudden rise in the levels of the rivers Haho and Zio, thereby resulting in floods. The immediate consequences of this situation are: flooding of fields and houses, destruction and/or flooding of roads

In terms of health, the degradation of hygiene in the affected areas has resulted in the breakout of diseases (malaria, diarrheal diseases, etc). This adversity has also occasioned the degradation of the nutritional situation of the children especially those who are less than five years of age.

Since the last floods which occurred this year in July, Togo has recorded at least 45937 disaster victims according to the reports of the municipal and regional directorates of health of the concerned areas (savannah, plateaus, coastal areas and Lomé Commune) whose majority of the disaster victims are children of less than five years of age.

Objective of the request
To make the plea to acquire drugs, foodstuffs, medicines and anti-malaria mosquito-nets for the disaster victims.

Requested Amount
Drugs: CFA 48.299.835
Urgent needs (Bleach, Protected mosquito-nets): CFA 23.376.000
