King Helps Austrian Scouts Spread their Message

1. Ene 2008

His Majesty the King of Sweden was in Vienna, Austria in mid-September to help Scouting. In a press conference he and other speakers praised the work being undertaken by Scouts in Austria, and he spoke about the values of Scouting to himself and to society.

The press conference was among several activities of the World Scout Foundation, of which he is the Honorary Chairman. It resulted in considerable positive publicity.

The Foundation's event programme included a gala dinner for 250 people in the Liechtenstein Museum, hosted by Prince Hans Adam of Liechtenstein. His Majesty Carl XVI Gustaf was accompanied by Her Majesty the Queen of Sweden, who has long been involved in Scouting work to help young people with disabilities, as well as new projects to integrate ethnic minorities into Swedish society.

The gala dinner raised over US$1.5 million for investment in the Foundation.

His Majesty welcomed 25 new members of the Baden-Powell Fellowship, bringing total membership to 1,626 worldwide. He also thanked Fellows who are progressing in the Honours Programme, which recognises higher levels of donations to the World Scout Foundation. Thirteen people are now members of the Regal Circle for having made contributions in excess of US$1 million.

The Foundation thanked the Scouts and Guides of Austria for their outstanding hospitality.
