Peace Light from Bethlehem.
In Norway, the St George Guilds (old scouts) distribute the Peace Light by road, rail and coastal steamer. This happens in the week before advent, and many churches have services with scout parades featuring the Peace Light on the first Sunday in advent. The Peace Light is then kept burning until Christmas/New year.
We try to emphasise the inter-religious nature of the Peace Light, and in 2013 it was brought to a mosque in Oslo for the first time.
Each year a well-known person har written a Peace Light message, but this year scouts and guides will be invited to write peace messages, which will be published on our website www.fredslyset.no and our Facebook page Fredslyset i Norge. (At present hese pages are only in Norwegian, but you can still look at the pictures! And we hope to have parts of the pages in English in the course of the year.)
We hope, too, to encourage Norwegian scouts and guides to take part in the Peace Project Challenge, if this continues in 2014.
Ivan Chetwynd, secretary, St Georgs Gildene i Norge.
