World Scout Committee member Eric Khoo passes away
13. Ene 2014
World Scouting is saddened by the sudden death of Eric Khoo (1956-2014) who was a member of the current World Scout Committee. Eric Khoo passed away following a heart attack in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia today. At the time of his passing Eric was also the International Commissioner of Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia (Malaysia Scouts Association).
Secretary General, Scott Teare said: "This is truly a sad day for world Scouting. Eric was the type of effective leader that was always behind the scenes, never seeking recognition for his efforts. He inspired others to do bigger and better things for Scouting and the young people our movement touches. Eric Khoo will always remain a friend in the hearts of many, and we will never forget his friendly smile. May time bring healing and peace to his family and loved ones."
Eric Khoo joined Scouting aged 9 years old as a Cub Scout in 1965. He was a member of the various sections and became a Scout Leader before taking up other volunteer leadership roles in Scouting, locally and internationally. In 2001, Eric became a member of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee and went on to become the Chairperson of the Region for the next term (2004-2007).
Eric was elected to the World Scout Committee at the World Scout Conference in Korea (2008) – his current term as a member of the World Scout Committee would have come to an end at the next World Scout Conference in Slovenia (August, 2014). Eric also served as a Chair and member for several sub-committees at Regional and global levels for World Scouting.
Eric received several awards throughout his association with Scouting. Notably, he received recognitions from Scout associations in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Philippines and Singapore, and he received a Distinguished Service award from Malaysian Scouting.
World Scouting mourns this sad loss and offers deepest condolences to Eric’s family and friends.
