Scouts from Lebanon, Hong Kong, Korea, Romania and the UK came together at the London Eye on Founder's Day (22 February) to share their experiences of Scouting’s work in local communities and its global message of peace.

Many Scout Associations are choosing to mark the Centenary year in conjunction with their national post authorities and issue a series of special stamps.

 

Kenya, 22 February 2007 - Today in Nyeri, Kenya, several thousand Scouts gathered at the grave of Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, to light a flame which will cross Africa and Europe, as part of the Movement's Centenary celebrations.

The World Scout Committee has appointed Mr Maurice Machenbaum, a 37 year old Swiss citizen, to the position of Treasurer of the World Scout Committee. Maurice is a graduate in Law and has a Master's degree in Humanitarian Action from the University of Geneva.

 

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Malek Gabr, former WOSM Deputy Secretary General. Malek passed away suddenly in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday 28 January.

The annual Hajj Pilgrimage, the world's largest annual gathering, has just finished in Islam's Holiest shrine, Mecca, Saudi Arabia, with an estimated four million pilgrims from all over the world coming together to pray, making this the largest Hajj ever.

Three thousand Saudi Scouts worked over the Hajj, helping to guide pilgrims along their way, helping in hospitals and reception centres, and simply being the smiling face to show the way.
