New leadership at the World Scout Bureau

Geneva, 1 December 2007 - The World Scout Committee announced the appointment of Mr Luc Panissod, 58, French, as the Acting Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, with effect from today. Luc Panissod is already very well known in World Scouting as he has been Deputy Secretary General since 1991. His area of responsibility was General Management and Finances. In this most demanding area, Luc has performed at the highest level and now looks forward to the latest and greatest challenge of steering Scouting at the start of its second century. Luc was awarded the Bronze Wolf in 1996 and has received several other Scouting awards.

At his first official speech delivered on the occasion of the Interamerican Scout Conference in Ecuador, Luc Panissod declared that he was "prepared". "Let’s not forget that our core business is education. In the long run this is how we make a difference. "Creating a better world" expresses our vision and the Strategy towards that goal is the education of young people through Scouting," said Mr Panissod.

He also referred to the "hundreds of inspirational Gifts for Peace presented at Scouting’s Sunrise on 1 August" recognising that "the centennial World Scout Jamboree helped to reaffirm the unique role Scouting plays in today's society". The worldwide family of Scouting will support Luc Panissod's inspiration for the months ahead.

Mr Panissod replaces Dr Eduardo Missoni.
