Thank you to all of the Cubs, Scouts and Rover Scouts who entered the Gifts for Peace competition, sharing their photos, videos and sound clips, and their truly inspirational stories.
The South African Scout Association celebrated the Centenary year throughout South Africa on “B-P Sunday”, which was held on 25 February 2007. Large events, attracting more than 5000 current and former Scouts were held in eight major centres. In addition, smaller services were held throughout South Africa at District and community levels.
Other than sharing the fact that both the Cederberg mountains and Mafikeng are in rocky terrains (Mafikeng means “place of stones”), both had something else in common – big Scout events seeing in the Centenary of Scouting! The first Centenary events worldwide.
On the banks of the Nile in Khartoum, Sudan, the national celebrations of Scouting's Centenary were launched.
“Today we celebrated Founder's Day by hosting a great festival. Scout members went in a big procession to the centre of Khartoum singing songs and waving flags and Baden Powell photos,” said Mohamed Salih of the Sudanese Scouts.
Scouting has been a part of the history of the Town of Whitby, Ontario, Canada for almost 100 years. In this Centennial year of World Scouting the Scouts of Whitby area thought it is only fitting that they give something back to the town to mark this special achievement.
For the eighth year in a row, thousands of Scouts travelled to the central plaza of Mexico City to 'draw' the fleur-de-lys (the emblem of World Scouting) in aluminium cans.
Scouting is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year with programmes, events and activities for everyone.
