One of the Boys?
'One of the Boys? Doing Gender in Scouting', report of a research project by Harriet Bjerrum Nielson, Centre for Women's Studies, Oslo University. In co-operation with the European Scout Region, WOSM's Educational Methods Group launched, in 2001, this research project on "Gender and Education in Scouting" to ask questions such as:
Does the Movement take the needs and aspirations of both girls and boys into account when designing the educational programmes?
Are adult leaders able to carefully observe and analyse what is really happening in the field? Are they keen to improve their current practices to ensure that each individual girl and boy is given opportunities to develop him/herself fully?
The Gender Toolkit Nowadays most European national scout organisations are open to both boys and girls. The mere acceptance of boys and girls to the same association does not guarantee that the needs and aspirations of both are taken equally into account. Indeed it requires a thorough, full evaluation of the national youth programme to find out whether or not coeducation is applied in a balanced manner.
Him 'n' Her (translation from Swedish) This book is written with the firm conviction that Scouting has not yet come that far down the road towards gender equality. But the fact that you are about to read it is a step towards this goal. You will probably not be able to cope with everything in this book, but read it anyway. And take a good look at your own opinions and prejudices. Discuss it with others in Scouting. Together we can make a difference!

The World Youth Programme Policy Youth Programme is the totality of what young people do in Scouting (the activities), how it is done (the Scout method) and the reason why it is done (the purpose).
RAP RAP is a systematic approach to programme development based on the fundamental elements of Scouting (purpose, principles and method), which aims to adapt youth programme to the needs and aspirations of each generation.
The Green Island The Green Island is a story about a national programme team which shows how RAP - the Renewed Approach to Programme can be used in concrete situations.
Euro.Scout.Doc - "Going National on Programme"?
Youth Programme is the “core business” of Scouting. It is at local level that the most important action takes place; there, each young person is provided with a learning environment (activities, procedures, traditions, structures, atmosphere…) that enhances his/her full development.
Quality in Youth Programme Design Toolkit
Many associations already have assessment tools for quality in implementation, which is definitely the most specific aspect of Youth Programme quality assessment, as it is narrowly correlated with the national Youth Programme design. In this context, it was thought that the regional level should have an assessment tool for quality in designing and design as its priority, as these the priority tasks attributed to the associations at national level concerning Youth Programme. Such a tool is crucial to analyse and evaluate Youth Programme, leading – if it proves necessary – to a renewal process.
Them ’n Us - A toolkit on diversity in Scouting
In order to illustrate ethnic diversity, this book includes perspectives on ethnicity, religion, culture, Scout culture and outdoor life. It is an addition to literature already xisting on diversity but excludes issues like sexuality, functional impairment, social diversity and gender equality. This book presents some facts on various cultures and religions. It is good to know facts but nevertheless I advise you not to take these facts for granted. People are different – we are individuals first and foremost. What group we belong to comes second.
