Andy Ridley, the co-founder of Earth Hour, a former Scout is proud of his connections to Scouting, especially with the close collaboration with WOSM and Earth Hour since its inception in 2007. He recollects fondly of his Scouting days when he was a member 1st Sea Scout Group, Lakenham, Norwich (UK), which has historic relevance for the Scout Movement, being one of the first ever Scout Groups formed 103 years ago. It is not surprising that some other key people at Earth Hours’ secretariat were also Scouts. Loryn Garnsey, the Community Partnerships and Special Projects Manager, has been a member of our National Scout Organization (NSO) in Australia (Scouts Australia) for over 10 years, progressing through the various age-sections in Scouting.

Spread the word around to your fellow Scouts, family, friends, community groups you are part of, and participate in the Earth Hour by turning off lights wherever you are for that one hour. In the past, Scout Groups have organised: a campfire evening; group discussions on environment issues followed by a candle-lit dinner; an eco-friendly overnight camp; etc. Share your stories on our facebook page as comments to our Earth Hour post.
