World Scout Bureau celebrates Founder's Day and Thinking Day
February, 2005
Those who were in Geneva at the World Scout Bureau today paused to mark Founder's Day and Thinking Day. The group included those from many countries who were attending a planning meeting for the next World Scout Moot, as well as the staff members of the Bureau, and some Geneva Scouts.
It was an opportunity to speak of individual Scouting experiences, make a chain of friendship, and to remember the Founder of Scouting, Lord Baden Powell, and the Founder of Girl Guiding, Lady Baden Powell. Both were born on 22 February.
Joint message from:
Lesley Bulman, Chief Executive of WAGGGS
Eduardo Missoni, Secretary General of WOSM
Whilst we were together in Sweden over the weekend, we decided that we would both like to send a joint message to all of our members:
The 22nd February is a day of great significance for Scouts, Girl Guides and Girl Scouts across the world, as we give thanks on the birthdays of our Founders, Lord Robert and Lady Olave Baden-Powell who together have inspired and transformed the lives of many, many millions of young people.
This is also the day in the year when we think of the great worldwide family to which we all belong. Our special thoughts go to those brothers and sisters who face another year of loss, hardship, fear or illness, in countries where we must continue to work to create a difference.
Let us hope and pray and work together in partnership and respond to the needs and aspirations of young people worldwide, their families and communities.
Let us all renew our determination to leave the world a little better than we found it.
