Scouting, Millennium Development Goals and White Band Day
Saturday 10th December 2005 – the Millennium Campaign - Voices Against Poverty will mobilize its 3rd White Band Day.
The focus of this White Band Day is Putting a Spotlight on Trade Injustice and coincides with the meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the 13th December.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the UN denotes World Scouting`s participation in the Millennium Campaign and working to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, and the issue of global trade plays a large role in the fight against poverty and the success of the campaign. The Scout Movement is committed to its Fair Trade Policy and working in conjunction with The International Labour Organization (ILO) in combating the injustices imposed upon the children and youth of the world. For this reason the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) is calling for the participation of Scouts around the world in making the Scouting presence felt on White Band Day.
Countries that are actively participating through the organization of special events include Argentina , Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, El Salvador, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Malta, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Philippines, Portugal, Russia, Sierra Leone, Slovakia, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Yemen, Zambia.
