Pan-American Jamboree opens in Argentina
The 12th Pan-American Jamboree, taking place in San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina, was inagurated in an incredible opening ceremony on 9 January. It was attended by more than 7000 Scouts from the Americas and Europe.
The opening was held in a park in the heart of the city and the participants walked from the campsite to the park through the city sharing their excitement and happiness with the citizens of San Rafael, who lined the streets to welcome them.
Highlights of the ceremony included presentations and dances from various regions of Argentina and welcome speeches were given by the Mayor of San Rafael and the Vice-Governor of the Province.
The Vice-President of Argentina, Mr. Daniel Scioli, declared the Jamboree officially open and welcomed the Scouts, praising the work they do to break down barriers and work for peace.
Ana-Elisa Piubello, a member of the World Scout Committee, also welcomed the participants and invited them to enjoy the Jamboree, stating: "It is my wish that all of you, boys and girls, make a lot of friends in these days, friends that will last for ever. I have been a Scout for many years and made a lot of friends; everlasting friends".
The opening created an electric atmosphere and was an excellent starting point for the Pan-American Jamboree that will go on till the 16th of January. The theme for the Jamboree is: "Un continente, una esperanza"
