European Scout Conference Closes

Reykjavik, Iceland, 22 April 2004

The delegates of the European national Scout organizations have elected a new European Scout Committee. Among the six members, four are under the age of 35. This decreased average age supports Scouting's strategic priority to involve more young people within the institutional decision-making process of the World Scout Organization.

Two members were elected for a second three-year term: Lidija Pozaic Frketic (Croatia, 29), who becomes the youngest regional chairman, and Johan Strid (Sweden, 35). Four new members were elected for three-year terms: Marios Christou (Cyprus, 44) who will be vice chairman, Paolo Fiora (Italy, 32), Joao Armando Gonçalves Pereira (Portugal, 40) and Craig Turpie (United Kingdom, 29). David McKee (United Kingdom, 45), the newly appointed as Regional Director, is also part of this new team.

During a long standing-ovation, participants warmly applauded the farewell speech of Jocelyne Gendrin-Guinebault, the current Regional Director. She will end her mandate in June.
