The First Lady of Iceland gets a first-hand Jamboree experience.
President of Iceland visits World Villages at the 21st World Scout Jamboree
Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, the president of Iceland together with his wife, enjoyed a full day of activities at the World Scout Jamboree taking place in the United Kingdom.
The president was welcomed at Hylands Park by representatives of the Icelandic contingent and was given the tour of the Hylands House.
Joined by the International Commissioner of Iceland, the President and his wife visited the World Villages to see the activities there and the Iceland exhibition.
At the Icelandic Pavilion, the First Lady rode the zip line activity and she was pleased to listen to the Scouts talking about their experiences during the Jamboree.
The President declared “It is amazing to see such a large number of people from very different cultural backgrounds, from all over the world living here together, showing that international friendship and peace are possible. This is the essence of Scouting”.
About the European event taking place in 2009 in Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson declared: “We are very happy to welcome Scouts from all around Europe and offer them the great adventure that RoverWay 2009 will be.”
The World Villages provide the participants with an opportunity to explore cultures, hobbies, arts, crafts, food and much more of countries worldwide. They spend one day in each of the two World Villages – TerraVille and AquaVille, where over 400 activities will be provided by National Scout Organisations attending the Jamboree. In addition to the activities, a spectacular show takes place during lunchtime.
