Theme 3: Natural Disaster
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disasters worldwide
ShelterBox has a strong history of working with Scout Associations in disaster-stricken zones – they have been of assistance in several countries, including Kenya and Italy. They have also developed a direct partnership with the NSO in the United Kingdom, the United States and France.
The JOTA-JOTI activities will be divided into three steps:
A / Before the JOTA-JOTI

- Discover how ShelterBox works and where the boxes were already used ( Watch the Video )
- Find the synergy between Scouts and Shelter-box ( Watch the Video )
- Get the most relevant information for your country:
- Get familiar with the content of the boxes
2 / Plan your JOTA-JOTI weekend
- Explore ShelterBox activity library and choose one (or more) to be run during the weekend
B / During the JOTA-JOTI
1 / Run with your scouts the activity you have chosen
- Take some pictures and post them on WOSM's flickr account or JOTA-JOTI facebook page.
2 / Take the "What's missing" challenge
Explain the content of a ShelterBox and discuss the usage of each components in case of Tsunami, Earthquake, Conflict with your scouts
- Discuss with your scouts what they would add in the box and why.
- Discuss your project with other Scouts using the Radio or the IRC chat (channel #ShelterBox)
- Record your proposals on WOSM server to get your participation certificate (NB.: Link will be open during the JOTA-JOTI)
3 / Try to compare : ShelterBox Deployment map with JOTA-JOTI stations maps
- What are the main similarities or differences? Try to understand what it means and what can be done to improve it?
- Discuss this with other Scouts using the Radio or the IRC chat (channel #ShelterBox)
4 / Connect with ShelterBox Events

Two majors events are taking place during the same week-end
- In United Kingdom: The ShelterBox Experience
- In United States: ShelterBox Camporall
There will be Radio Stations and Internet Connexion on both events so you might get a chance to talk to scouts participating in these events to share their experience and excitation.
C / After the JOTA-JOTI
