Money raised from the expedition will go towards the "Rebirth of the Phoenix Project" which will help to rebuild Lebanon after the conflict.
Crossing the Greenland ice cap to rebuild Lebanon
During April and May 2007, two Scouts will be traversing, by ski, 570km across the Greenland Ice Cap to help rebuild Lebanon and celebrate 100 years of Scouting. Matt Franzke, (29) from Australia, who now lives in the UK, and Mustard Robley (25), will be pulling a sled unsupported for 30 days across the ice cap. The effort will highlight that Scouting is still a great way to experience adventure.
The expedition will face fierce winds, temperatures below -30c, polar bears and extreme remoteness as they push their way across the ice cap. The expedition departs London on April 17.
Matt and Mustard’s expedition will be raising funds to help Rover Scouts in Lebanon build their community after last year's devastation. The “Rebirth of the Phoenix Project” is being organised by local Scouts and will improve health, education, remove unexploded bombs and give support to families.
Individuals and organisations can help by donating to the expedition, and in return, after the completion of their ice cap traverse, Matt and Mustard will send personalised postcards from Greenland to everyone who donated.
