Tragic road accident results in 15 Scouts injured on the island of Crete, Greece

On Monday 3 August 2009 at 18:10, 13 Scouts and 2 Leaders of the 1st Lerapetra Scout Group were injured in the region of Koutsouras, South-East Crete.

The Scouts were victims of a road accident involving a car and a motorbike, when the car driver lost control and crashed into an off-road bus station where the Scouts were gathered waiting for the bus.

Five Scouts are in a serious condition while the remaining 8 and their 2 leaders suffered serious injuries and are all hospitalised. The 14 Scouts, 3 Venture Scouts and 4 Leaders – 21 in total, were returning home from a 3-day expedition. The accident took place just 20 minutes before the local bus was due to arrive.
