New Training System on the horizon

The Training Team of Lithuanian Scouting investigates if their training system is causing problems

The problems the Lithuanians have identified include:

  • The number of adults who participate in the training has decreased in the past 2 years
  • Some training was cancelled because of low participation

The Lithuanian Scouts believe that these problems occurred because:

  • Adults don’t have the motivation to participate in the training;
  • Adults don’t see training as a valuable resource for the better work with Scouts;
  • The training model, which was created in 2001, has not been renewed since;
  • The trainer’s team has changed and there is a lack of new trainers, or lack of new competences in the existing team

After the Training Commissioner participated in the Training Systems Renewal Workshop, a tailored support project was agreed to provide assistance and expertise from the WOSM - European Region. The first action in the project was the Training Committee Meeting held in Kaunas on 4 - 5 April 2009. Two facilitators from the Region helped the Committee to work on designing a Training Systems renewal process and plan the Training of Trainers.

Outcomes of the meeting include the recommendation that the Training Commissioner will request the National Board to start the renewal process and plan for a Training of Trainers session in June.

The proposed plan of the process foresees a Forum for setting the framework of the new Training Systems, scheduled for a large meeting of leaders on 21 August. If everything goes as planned, the new Training System will be developed and adopted at the General Assembly in February 2010.
