Is the Centenary only about celebrating?

Workshop on Recruitment gathered 14 participants from Ireland, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden and UK.

The workshop was held from 14 to 17 December at Mount Saint Joseph, Malta. The aim of the workshop was to explore ways in which we can use the Centenary of Scouting to recruit adults for leadership and other roles.
The opening ceremony of the event was organized in the Headquarters of the Scout Association of Malta, with several members of the leadership present, and Dr Francis Zammit Dimech, Minister for Tourism and Culture addressing participants. The Minister emphasised that "Scouting exists for the benefit of young people. It is a youth movement in which adults provide guidance and support to youth members within the various groups and associations. It is evident that the delivery of the various programmes forming part of the day-to-day instruction to the members of the Movement has to be imparted through competent and dedicated adults.
Besides significant work on features and benefits, roles in Scouting and profiles of Leaders, recruitment techniques, and obstacles to recruitment, special attention was placed on Scouting’s Centenary as an exceptional occasion and also challenge for recruiting and retaining Leaders. Exchanges of ideas, plans and experiences between participants indicated large potential. It will be presented in the Euro.Scout.Doc issue which is about to be published in early January.
Participants worked in small international teams on interesting projects: Communication between national and local Scouting to ensure co-ordinated approach, Business and Scouting, Adult Recruitment in minority communities, Recruitment Project in Universities and/or Colleges, Adult recruitments and social trends and Using new Information Technology System to aid Adult Recruitment.
The Scout Association of Malta provided excellent conditions for work and warm Mediterranean hospitality. They were very active in promoting the event, both internally and externally. There were several media reports about the event, including national TV and newspapers.
