The "Fourth Web for Development" Conference

On behalf of the Africa Regional Office, the Communications Assistant and IT Support person, Amos Ndegwa attended the The Fourth Web for Development Conference with the theme, "Driving economic and social development with the Internet" at the UN-HABITAT Headquarters.

The Conference lasted three days, November 28 - 30. This was the first time the conference was held in a developing country. It focused on using the Internet to accelerate achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. The main aim of the conference was to identify key success factors and a framework for successful partnerships to maximise the benefits of the Internet for economic and social development.
The opening remarks were made by Dr, Bitange Ndemo, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Information and Communication,
Other dignarities included; Ms. Elizabeth Lwanga, UNDP Resident Representative, Kenya; Mr. Nicholas You, Office of the Executive Director, UN-HABITAT; and a representative of the Assistant Secretary General, Chief Information Technology Officer, United Nations, Mr. Jason Bellone.
