United Nations

The goal of Scouting and the United Nations has always been to create a better world. Both organisations work for peace, development, human rights, and education for young people. By working together, we can make our common dream of a better world come true.

The relationship between Scouting and the UN has a long history. Since the early days of the United Nations, Scouts at all levels have been involved in various programmes, initiatives and projects with different UN bodies. This is also part of the Strategy for Scouting.

The Conference of NGOs in consultative relations with the UN (CONGO) is an independent, international, not-for-profit membership association of nongovernmental organisations that facilitates the participation of NGOs in United Nations debates and decisions.

The International Alliance Against Hunger (IAAH) is a global partnership that aims to fulfill the World Food Summit and the Millennium Development Goals: the elimination of world hunger.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is the United Nations' specialised agency for labour issues.

The UN Millennium Campaign informs, inspires and encourages people’s involvement and action for the realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). An initiative of the United Nations, the Campaign supports citizens’ efforts to hold their government accountable for the Millennium promise.

The UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) brings together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organizations to help the world prevent new HIV infections, care for those already infected, and mitigate the impact of the epidemic.

The Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat (UN-DESA) coordinates global policies in the economic, social and environmental spheres and the corresponding national action.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life.

The UN Environment Programme provides leadership and encourages partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) promotes peace by encouraging international cooperation among its members states in the fields of education, science, culture and communication.
